VI Russia-Singapore Business Dialogue

On 17 December 2021, VI Russia-Singapore Business Dialogue was successfully held on the occasion of the 11th meeting of the High-Level Russia–Singapore Inter-Governmental Commission.

In a pandemic environment, the format of the event was mixed - at the Center for Overseas Promotion of Russian High-Tech Companies and the Presentation of investment projects in Singapore and at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in Moscow via a Russia-Singapore teleconference. The videoconference was streamed live on the YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eromuq3p76Q).

The participants of the Business Dialogue discussed the issues of engineering cooperation, in particular, digital technologies, their application in aviation, medicine, finance, as well as green projects and sustainable development through new advanced technologies.

Nikolay Volobuev, Chairman of the Russian-Singapore Business Council, made a welcoming speech. He stressed that, despite the limitations associated with the pandemic, the RSBC has found a format of communication that allows discussing pressing issues and the direction in cooperation between Russian and Singaporean business circles.

"Every time our forums bring together those who advocate the expansion and intensification of economic, political and cultural relations between Russia and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union with Singapore and the ASEAN countries. Representatives of large and medium-sized enterprises, investment funds and business accelerators, heads of state and municipal governments, mass media and public organizations have met on our site for the sixth time," Nikolay Volobuev said.

Vladimir Padalko, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, noted the progress in business relations between Russia and Singapore. According to the results of 3 quarters of 2021, the growth of mutual trade turnover amounted to more than 40%, Russian exports increased by 58%, and Singapore's imports to Russia - by 8.7%.

Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Activity and International Relations of Moscow, highlighted cooperation between Russia and Singapore in the field of urban infrastructure development, expressed hope that Moscow will learn from the experiences of Singapore and will qualitatively improve transport, security and smart city technologies.

Director of the Department for Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Natalia Stapran noted the prospects of partnership between Russia and Singapore in many areas, including digital technologies and sustainable development.

In addition, Olga Kharlamova, Charge d'Affaires a.i. Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Singapore, Aleksandr Svinin, Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Singapore, Mr. Drogaytsev, representative of Gazprom Marketing & Trading Singapore, and Michael Tay, the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to the Russian Federation, head of the Foundation for the Arts and Social Enterprise, had a speech at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of cultural ties and the importance of "soft power".

The following plenary sessions were held: " New solutions for carbon neutrality", "International engineering and production cooperation, contract production and digital technologies", "Increasing competitiveness by optimizing traditional and creating new services in the logistics, insurance and finance", "Financing of green projects", "Asia-Pacific region in International relations", "Development of Russia-Singapore cooperation in education and culture". Business representatives from Russia, Singapore and other countries presented their companies and various investment projects.

Within the framework of the VI Russian-Singapore Business Dialogue, Nikolay Volobuev signed Cooperation Agreements with the ANO Consortium Medical Technology, the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO RAN) and the ASEAN Center at MGIMO of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
