Open International Webinar on Key Issues in International Cooperation of Distributed R&D Centres

On May 28, 2020, the open international webinar, organized by the Russia-Singapore Business Council and the State Corporation «Rosteс», took place. It was dedicated to key issues of international cooperation of distributed R&D centers and was held in conference format. Speakers included leading Russian, Singaporean and Malaysian experts from the scientific and business communities.

The Deputy Chairman-Executive Director of the RSBC, S.E. Pronin, noted the relevance of the subject to modern society, which had to face new challenges every day. Mr Eg Ka Yi, founder and chairman of USrest Bernhad and Key ASIC Bernhad, described ways to improve the company’s performance, including in times of crisis.

Notable examples of successful collaboration between universities and corporations are the laboratories and research centres of the National University of Singapore, which were established jointly by Marcelo H. Ang, Director of the Advanced Robotics Center, and Mr Ng Howe Yong, Director of Sembcorp Corporate Laboratory - NUS. A.S. Sigov, President of MIREA - Russian Technological University, Academician of RAS, explained the priorities of Russian higher education institutions in developing cooperation in the field of R&D.

Representatives of the Russian and Singaporean businesses stressed the importance of research and innovation infrastructure for the development of specific industries. The problems of the development of the infrastructure of the power supply facilities and the oil and gas industry were the subject of a presentation by the REC expert, the project manager M.G. Khabaiv. Desmond Tay, the CEO of vCargo Cloud Pte Ltd in Singapore, emphasized the development of global trade and the role of blockchain technology. The director of Progression Engineering Pte Ltd, Winnie Theo, summarized the prospects for the development of distributed R&D centers and virtual studios, paying attention both to the strengths of this approach and to possible pitfalls.
