First Singapoeran appointed as a chief scientific sdviser to European Commision – life sciences professor Mangala Srinivas.

Mangala Srinivas is a 44-year-old professor of life sciences, who is based in the Netherlands. She is the first Singaporean among a team of top scientists advising European Union (EU) politicians on shaping new policies and laws based on science. The advisers, who serve hree-year terms, were chosen from around 400 nominees, including Nobel laureates.

Danish lifestyle brand Flying Tiger Copenhagen has opened its first store in Singapore on July 28.

Flying Tiger Copenhagen, known for its colourful and affordable products for the home and office, has opened its first Singapore store at Bugis+ on July 28. Packed with toys, games and gadgets, as well as leisure, home and kitchen products, the 157 sq m space sits on the mall’s second floor.
The Singapore store is the brand’s latest step in its Asia-Pacific expansion, which kicked off with Indonesia and the Philippines in 2023, followed by Australia and Vietnam in 2024.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines will launch direct Singapore-Ulaanbaatar flights from Nov 4.

Starting from November 4, travelers will be able to fly directly between Singapore and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital, on a Boeing 767 jet twice a week until March 2026. The flight from Singapore will leave at 7.25pm and arrive in Mongolia at 2.55am. The return flight from Ulaanbaatar will leave at 10.35am local time and arrive in Singapore at 6pm. Tickets are on sale and travellers are provided with 15 business-class seats and 237 seats in economy.

Chinese automobile brand BYD topped Singapore's sales rankings in the first half of 2025.

BYD, which focuses on electric vehicles (EV), has topped new car registrations in Singapore with 4,667 cars in the first half of 2025, indicated Land Transport Authority figures released on Monday (Jul 28). BYD increased its market share as it made up 19.5 per cent of the total 23,957 registrations in H1 2025, up from 13.9 per cent in the previous corresponding period. Toyota, one of Japan’s top automotive brands, secured second place with 3,461 registrations, marking a 9.4 per cent rise compared to 3,165 in the corresponding period last year. Nevertheless, its market share dropped to 14.4 per cent from 17 per cent.
