Port of Singapore’s container throughput rises 4.6% to 39.01 million TEUs in 2023
Apart from a record high throughput, the port also handled 591.70 million tonnes of cargo last year, whilst annual vessel arrival crossed three billion gross tonnage (GT) for the first time, translating to a 9.4% jump from 2022.
In 2023, the total tonnage of ships under the Singapore flag reached 99.56 million GT (+4% YoY), making the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) the largest ship registry globally.
China becomes first country with over 4 million domestic invention patents
China owned about 4.02 million domestic valid invention patents by the end of 2023, up 22.4 percent year on year, making it the first country in the world to hold over 4 million valid domestic invention patents, the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA) said on Tuesday.
China's GDP expands 5.2% in 2023, surpassing annual target
China's gross domestic product (GDP) posted a growth of 5.2 percent year on year to 126.06 trillion yuan ($17.71 trillion) in 2023, higher than the target of around 5 percent, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed Wednesday.
China's economy in 2023 grew by over 6 trillion yuan, equivalent to the annual GDP of a medium-sized country, said Kang Yi, head of NBS, at a press conference.
Grand lantern festival lights up Zibo as prelude to Spring Festival
The festive atmosphere is heating up in Zibo City, Shandong Province as a lantern festival opened in grand style to welcome the upcoming Spring Festival. More than 60 large lantern installations were arranged for the lantern festival, integrating the cultural themes of heaven, earth, and humanity, corresponding to folk tales. The lantern festival will run until March 11.
