Two schemes aimed at steering car owners towards cleaner-energy vehicles have been extended.

On Monday (Sep 8), The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) announced that the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) will run for another two years until Dec 31, 2027, while the Electric Vehicle (EV) Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) will be extended to Dec 31, 2026, before being phased out.

Green roofs and solar panels: A winning combo for building owners.

A joint research study by the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), and the National Parks Board (NParks) demonstrates the benefits of co-locating solar panels and green roofs in tropical climates – an area that is less well-studied compared to temperate regions. The study found that the PV-GR set-up delivered the highest overall performance, achieving both the highest photovoltaic performance, along with the lowest and most stable roof surface temperature. This enhances solar energy generation while providing effective cooling through greenery and shading.

NTUC launches initiative with industry partners to provide greater support for SMEs.

Launched on Thursday (Sep 11), the initiative brings together various collaborators – such as industry associations, trade bodies and business clans – to help connect SME members and their workers with NTUC programmes and support. For participating SMEs, the programme offers access to capability-building and transformation initiatives under the NTUC Company Training Committee (CTC) framework.

Malaysia’s national carmaker Proton is back in Singapore.

Proton has returned to Singapores market, revving up its re-entry on Sept 17 with the launch of its electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) which has taken Malaysia by storm. On the same day at its new showroom in Leng Kee Road, eight customers will receive their e.Mas 7 SUVs from Proton’s Singapore distributor Vincar Group. The launch ends an 11-year absence – Proton exited the Republic in 2014 after its subsidiary sold its last four cars in Singapore.
