Mercedes' George Russell wins F1 Singapore Grand Prix, McLaren takes constructors' title.

On Sunday (Oct 5), Mercedes' George Russell converted his pole position into a Singapore Grand Prix victory with a flawless drive, finishing ahead of Red Bull's reigning world champion Max Verstappen. Lando Norris of McLaren challenged Verstappen late in the race but ultimately secured third place ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri, a result that delivered enough points to clinch a second straight constructors' championship for McLaren.

Singapore’s digital economy contributed 18.6% to GDP, generated 214,000 tech jobs in 2024.

In 2024, Singapore’s digital economy grew by $12 billion, contributing $128.1 billion or 18.6 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), and generated 214,000 tech jobs. Its contribution to GDP increased from 18 per cent in 2023 and 14.9 per cent in 2019. According to the third edition of the Singapore Digital Economy Report released by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) on Oct 6, most of the growth came from digitalisation in non-tech sectors rather than from tech firms.

New grant lets tariff-hit local companies claim up to 50% of costs of adapting.

Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) launched the Business Adaptation Grant (BizAdapt) on Tuesday (Oct 7) to support companies affected by tariffs. Under this new grant, eligible local SMEs can claim up to 50% of their adaptation costs, while larger local firms can claim up to 30%, with a cap of S$100,000 per company. Applications are open on the government’s Business Grants Portal and will remain so for two years until Oct 6, 2027. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong noted on Tuesday that this period could be extended if necessary.

7 hotels in Singapore make it to inaugural global Michelin Keys selection, Raffles Hotel Singapore earns 3 keys.

The Michelin Guide has launched its new global "Michelin Keys" award for outstanding hotels, recognizing over 2,400 properties worldwide. Singapore is home to seven of these distinguished hotels. Raffles Hotel Singapore received the top honor of Three Keys, while six others — including Capella Singapore and the Mandarin Oriental — were each awarded One Key.

TTSH to train TCM students from NTU on patient, integrative care.

Starting in 2027, final-year undergraduates from Nanyang Technological University's (NTU) four-year Bachelor of Chinese Medicine programme will join junior doctors in shadowing senior physicians on rounds at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). This initiative is part of a new collaboration between the hospital and NTU, which aims to integrate Western and Eastern therapies by exploring the role of TCM as a complementary treatment.
